Basaynon Katig-uban of USA & Canada

Greetings from Canada!

Canada was introduced to the Basaynon Katig-uban during Mana Inday and Jim Sanderson's hermanidad in the late 1980's. Through the efforts of the Canadian members, the Katig-uban was finally registered in 1995. Since then, our networks has shown its commitment to the Katig-uban and to the Basaynons through its numerous, meaningful contributions to the fabric of the North American community and to our homeland. As a "mini" Basaynon Katig-uban in Edmonton, we have encountered a few challenges that have allowed us to keep growing while continuing to provide assistance where needed. The collegial support that we give to one another, is something which we hold on to. We enjoy the fellowship, especially when reminiscing about the Basaynon ways of knowing and of living. We motivate each other to learn more about issues inundating Basey and we have become ardent advocates for the Basaynons.

The Basaynons are a source of my inspiration for personal and professional growth. As I write and travel around the world speaking of global, human rights, environmental, military, cultural solidarity and structural adjustment concerns, Basey is foremost in my heart. However, "there is little I can do alone; together we can do much." Let us continue to bond together in our journey to help ourselves and our hometown.

Best wishes to Amado Gad and his family. Maupay nga Patron ha aton ngatanan.
